The Tides
We have been here before, you and I,
on the same floor, the same shift,
breathing the same tired air
and still you look at me like I am the weather,
like I am the thing that keeps changing
when you only wanted to stay the same.
Don't tell me what is possible.
I have watched inpossible
get up every morning and go to work anyway.
You learned the rules and called it understanding.
You learned to nod and called it peace.
I do not blame you for being afraid.
I blame you for dressing it up
and handing it to me like wisdom.
I have been carrying this longer than you have been comfortable.
I know what I am.
I know what this is.
I have entire oceans inside me.
And you,
You can go back to sleep now.
